Coaching Vs. Psychology
Coaching & Psychology can be distinguished within 2 dimensions

Dimension 1
Past-/Future-Orientation
Dimension 2
Mental target state
Dimension 1: Psychology & coaching compared in Past-/Future-Orientation
Visualization Past-/Future-Orientation
Psychology…
…has its focus on the past
…is simply speaking about diagnosis of causation of specific issues and initiation of intervention
…interventions might aim at future goals, too
Coaching…
….is about assisting the coachee with the focus on the future
…helps in proactive actualization of problems
…helps in self reflected activation of ressources
…aims at enabling the coachee at achieving future goals
Dimension 2: Psychology & Coaching compared in mental target state
Illustration mental target state
Psychology
psychologist helps bringing a person from a negative to a more or less neutral state (in any aspect)
Client has a negative condition, which should be proactively neutralized with the help of the psychologist
Coaching
coach creates environment for the coachee to be able to develop him-/herself
Development occurs from a neutral state to a positive state (in any aspect)
Pay attention
This is why, when being in a negative state in any major aspect of a human’s basic functioning, the possibility of first seeking out for psychological help should be considered.
